Actually I Can: Bridging Communities of Color in STEM

September 19 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

OFA-DC’s Summer Fellows Program is hosting an event discussing barriers to communities of color in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics) education/careers- whether institutional, political, or social- and how educational (and extracurricular) institutions are growing to fill those needs gaps. Our event will trace the expansion of educational best-practices and opportunities for students of color- and possibly even for people of color even beyond school-years that can become engaged with STEM-based careers. At the same time, we hope to discuss how policy and political awareness can be useful means of encouraging our country’s leaders to focus on racial disparities in education and how, moving forward, we can close this achievement gap and build out a stronger pipeline for talented students of color.

We will be joined by Ward 8 Councilman Trayon White and distinguished panelists from Google, General Assembly, and the Center for Applied Linguistics represented at the event.
