Billy Colbert Artist Talk

We invite you to join us for an intimate conversation with artist Billy Colbertto discuss his multimedia exhibition, The Enduring Projection. The show deals with the depiction of African-Americans throughout history and the challenges people of color have endured in controlling their image in print and film. Colbert will convert the gallery into an archival/anthropological environment which explores the positive and challenges the negative archetypes and stereotypes that have hindered and haunted their placement in American culture.
About the artist:
Billy Colbert is an award winning artist and professor. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Graphic Design from Frostburg State University and a Master of Fine Arts in Painting from the University of Delaware, where he was a Presidential Fellow. With over 20 years of solo exhibits, twenty-four group shows, and several curated exhibitions Colbert has been called upon as a guest speaker and panelist for engagements throughout the mid Atlantic region. He is currently a professor of New Media at Delaware State University.
Colbert’s work examines the cognitive dissonance in popular culture and celebrates the unsung contributors to American culture. His works can be found in fifty-five private collections across the world and nearly twenty public collections, including the World Bank, University of Wisconsin at Madison, Washington Convention Center, the National Academy of Sciences and the African American Museum in Dallas.
