Live Wednesdays: Elijah Jamal Balbed and Friends

April 23, 2014 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Saxophonist and composer Elijah Jamal Balbed is an award-winning saxophonist in the Washington, DC area. A native of Silver Spring, Elijah attended Howard University from 2008-2011 and was the featured soloist in the Howard University Jazz Ensemble (HUJE). While at Howard, the Washington City Paper named him the Best New Jazz Musician (2010) and also recently named him Best Tenor Saxophonist (2013). In 2011, Elijah had the rare opportunity to start working with the Godfather of Go-Go, Mr. Chuck Brown. Elijah performed in his band until Mr. Brown’s death in May of 2012 and is currently a member of the Chuck Brown Tribute Band. For this concert Elijah will be combining elements of Jazz and Go-Go music to explore new, unchartered musical territories, to keep Chuck Brown’s legacy alive, and to keep you on your feet!
