(home)land: The New Migration Reception

Artist Abigail DeVille, curator Justine Topfer and Hamiltonian invite the public to participate in “The New Migration”, a sunset processional performance in homage to The Great Migration on Saturday, September 6 at 7:30 pm, beginning at the Frederick Douglass National Historic Site and concluding at the Anacostia Arts Center. After the conclusion of the processional, Anacostia Arts Center will host a catered reception with bite-sized Southern comfort food and beverages. The reception is free and open to all processional participants.
“The New Migration” is part of 5×5: 2014, a District-wide program of 25 contemporary, temporary public art projects dedicated to exploring new perspectives on the city through the lens of 5 curators, presented by the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanties.
Abigail DeVille received her MFA from Yale University 2011 and her BFA from the Fashion Institute of Technology in 2007. DeVille has exhibited a growing constellation of site-specific installations in the United States and Europe. DeVille is a 2012 Joan Mitchell Foundation grant recipient and has a forth-coming residency at The Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study Fellowship at Harvard.
