The Dispartment of Nightwatch
June 6, 2015 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm$20
DC Artist Jared Davis has painted a baroque large format artwork, Nightwatch, that he claims has no place in today’s “art world,” and must be destroyed.
The Dispartment of Nightwatch will be will be part lecture, part performance art, and part variety show. Limited to 80 guests, the evening will include performances by GiGi Holliday, Candy del Rio, Lucrezia Blozia, Kittie Glitter (all featured in the painting), and a TEDtalk-style lecture by the artist followed by the destruction of the artwork.
Guest names will be drawn at random and each person may choose any available 8×10″ portion of the work to take home. Jared, with some assistance, will slice the painting down to shreds as the evening continues. If there are no more contiguous pieces left towards the end of the evening, guests may select 8×10 equivalent pieces.
The acrylic on canvas work measures 16’ X 9’ and features 20 figures, one dog, and a lot of curtain. This figurative painting uses “models” that are primarily pulled from the DC burlesque/side-show scene.
Nightwatch will be on display in the theater at Anacostia Arts Center, June 2nd through 6th (Tues-Thu from 10 – 6 pm and Fr-Sat from 10 am – 8 pm). Starting at 8 pm on June 6th, the theatre will be open to only ticketholders and the discussion/destruction of the work will commence. Tickets are $20 and entitle each ticket holder to an 8”x 10” section of the painting. Tickets available at http://
